Constantly Bloated? It’s Not Normal… Here’s What to Do

Let’s Set the Record Straight: Bloating Is Common – But It’s Not Normal

You finish a meal and suddenly your stomach feels tight, distended, and uncomfortable.
You wake up flat-bellied but by mid-afternoon, your pants are digging in.
You start avoiding certain foods – or skipping meals altogether – just to avoid that constant pressure and puffiness.

If this sounds like you, you’ve probably been told:
“It’s just IBS.”
“It’s probably gas.”
“It’s normal to bloat after eating.”

But here’s the truth:
Chronic bloating is NOT normal – and it’s your body’s way of telling you that something deeper is going on.

In fact, bloating is often a warning sign that your digestion, gut microbiome, hormones, or detox systems are struggling – and until you get to the root cause, the discomfort won’t go away.

Keep reading, because I’m about to share what’s really causing your bloating – and why most people never get long-term relief (until they address what I’m about to reveal).

Why Do So Many People Feel Bloated – Even on a “Healthy” Diet?

Bloating doesn’t always come from eating too much – it’s usually a result of what your body can’t properly digest, break down, or eliminate.

It might feel like you’re reacting to random foods…
Or that your stomach just can’t handle anything anymore…
But the real issue is often happening before, during, or after digestion.

Here’s what’s really going on underneath the surface.

The Most Overlooked Reasons for Chronic Bloating

1. Low Stomach Acid (Yes, LOW – not high!)

Contrary to popular belief, most people who experience bloating, reflux, or indigestion don’t have too much stomach acid – they have too little.

When stomach acid is low, food sits in the stomach longer and begins to ferment. This leads to gas, bloating, and poor breakdown of protein, which can cause downstream issues in the gut.

To make matters worse, antacids and acid-blocking medications only suppress acid further – temporarily easing symptoms while worsening the root problem.

2. Imbalanced Gut Bacteria or SIBO

Your gut is home to trillions of bacteria. When the balance of these microbes gets disrupted – whether from antibiotics, processed foods, stress, or poor sleep – it can lead to overgrowths like SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth).

In SIBO, bacteria that should reside in the colon start multiplying in the small intestine, where they ferment carbohydrates and fibers too early. The result? Gas, bloating, pain, and food sensitivities.

If you feel bloated after healthy foods like garlic, onions, apples, or legumes, SIBO could be at play.

3. Poor Bile Flow or Gallbladder Issues

Bile is a digestive fluid produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. It helps break down fats and eliminate waste. But when bile flow is sluggish – or if you’ve had your gallbladder removed – fat digestion becomes compromised.

This often results in bloating, nausea after meals, or floating stools.

Supporting liver and bile health is crucial for anyone struggling with bloating and digestive distress.

4. Candida or Fungal Overgrowth

Candida is a type of yeast that lives in your gut. In small amounts, it’s harmless. But under the right conditions – like high sugar intake, antibiotics, or chronic stress – it can overgrow and cause fermentation, bloating, cravings, and brain fog.

If your bloating is accompanied by fatigue, skin issues, or intense sugar cravings, fungal overgrowth could be behind the scenes.

5. Food Sensitivities and Leaky Gut

Eating foods your immune system reacts to can trigger inflammation, fluid retention, and bloating – even if the food seems “healthy.”

Common culprits include gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, and even “healthy” staples like almonds or oats.

These sensitivities often stem from leaky gut, a condition where the intestinal lining becomes compromised, allowing undigested food particles to enter the bloodstream and trigger immune responses.

The cycle continues: the more you eat reactive foods, the more inflamed and bloated you feel.

What Happens If You Ignore the Bloating?

Bloating is your body’s check-engine light. And like any warning signal, ignoring it can lead to deeper dysfunction over time.

Unresolved digestive issues can trigger:

  • Autoimmune conditions

  • Skin flare-ups like acne, eczema, or rosacea

  • Brain fog and mood changes

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Nutrient deficiencies

This is not about taking probiotics or sipping peppermint tea and hoping for the best.
This is about identifying the root cause and supporting your body in a way that leads to lasting results.

Why Most People Stay Bloated – Even After “Trying Everything”

You’ve probably already tried some combination of:

  • Cutting gluten or dairy

  • Taking digestive enzymes or probiotics

  • Following a FODMAP or elimination diet

  • Drinking ginger or chamomile tea

  • Doing a detox or cleanse

And maybe some of these helped… temporarily. But then the bloating returned.

That’s because without identifying which system is out of balance – gut bacteria, stomach acid, bile flow, immune reactivity, stress response – you’re only chasing symptoms.

Inside my Metabolic Foundations Program, we use a root-cause diagnostic approach to get answers and create a clear, personalized plan. That’s where the real transformation begins.
